Our Garnet Blasting service is EPA compliant, with the benefits of less dust and no safety hazards at the equivalent production rate of silica sand. Garnet is a high quality, general purpose blasting abrasive. The abrasive substance (garnet) is propelled at a high pressure against the metal surface. This process works to remove rust, corrosion, unwanted paint and oils from the substrate, leaving behind a clean profile on which the powder coating can adhere to without any further sanding or preparation required.
Service Process
Our process involves blasting and preparing the surface to remove any existing coatings and contaminants that will compromise the quality of adhesion. Next, we prime the surface to provide an ideal base to act as a corrosion inhibitor, before curing this in the oven for approximately 1 hour. We then powder coat the surface in a colour of your choice, before again curing for quality maintenance. Southern Powder Coaters can blast products of varying capacities, including:

Quality Assurance
To attain the highest level of quality control with our processes, we send samples of our powder coating work to the Akzo Nobel labs to undergo a thorough testing procedure. This test takes three months to complete as the samples are subject to 1000 hours of acetic acid salt spray. This is to determine any imperfections to the powder coated areas looking for adhesions, blistering or corrosion to base metal. We are proud to say we have passed every test.
It is also important to note that these tests are not an industry requirement, the testing is undertaken to keep our standards and quality at the highest possible level. This is part of our continuous improvement program to ensure that we are at the forefront of powder coating technology and processes.
